New Kent Fire-Rescue is always looking for individuals who want to join the ranks of volunteers that help protect the citizens and property throughout our communities! In rural localities such as New Kent volunteers are an important aspect of Fire/EMS services… so if  you’re interested in being an Everyday Hero please take the first step by downloading and completing the Volunteer Application (see the link below).

To preregister (preregistration is required) for one of our 2020 new volunteer orientations or to request additional information about volunteering please email Deputy Fire Chief Lisa Baber at; be sure to include your name and a daytime contact telephone number.

The 2020 New Volunteer Member Orientations will be held on the following Wednesday dates: January 29; March 25 (CANCELED); May 27 (CANCELED); July 29; September 30; and November 18. Attendance at only one of these orientations is required.  The start time and location for each date is 7:00 PM  in the facility training room at Fire Station 1 (Providence Forge) located at 4315 North Courthouse Road, Providence Forge, VA 23140.  As stated above, preregistration is required for all persons wanting to attend a new volunteer orientation.

Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Supports local response capability by training volunteers to organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers at the disaster site, to provide immediate assistance to victims, and to collect disaster intelligence to support responders’ efforts when they arrive.


The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES).

An all volunteer Amateur Radio organization operating in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to provide back-up communications for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the various counties therein. New Kent 4 Amateur Radio (NK4AR) is the supporting Amateur Radio club for this effort in New Kent County. For more information, please click here.

Volunteer Orientation Information

Interested in volunteering with New Kent Fire-Rescue Fire?  Fill out a Volunteer Application and then join us at one of our monthly orientations. Preregistration is REQUIRED for all persons planning to attend one of the orientations.

2020 New Volunteer Member Orientations will be held on the following Wednesday dates: January 29; March 25 (CANCELED)May 27 (CANCELED); July 29; September 30; and November 18. To preregister for an orientation you must send an email to Deputy Fire Chief Lisa Baber with your name and contact information and the orientation date that you will attend. Is your Disaster Kit Stocked? Hurricane Sandy knocked out power to 8.5 million customers for seven days. Make sure your disaster kit is up-to-date and you have a plan in place for your family. Help others in your community take steps to prepare as well.
