Volunteer Service Opportunities

WATCH video stories on New Kent’s push to increase Volunteer Recruitment aired on local television news stations at NKFR in the NEWS.

New Kent Fire-Rescue is always looking for volunteers at each of our stations! Upon expressing interest, and prior to volunteering, those individuals wishing to volunteer are to complete a Fire/EMS Orientation. At such orientation, individuals will receive all necessary materials to complete an application to volunteer. Please see below for details.

Volunteer Fire/EMS Orientation

What: Initial training for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer member of New Kent Fire-Rescue

When:
4th Wednesday of every month @ 6:30 PM (New members need only attend once)

Where: Station 1

Pre-Requisites: None

Cost: None

Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT)

Supports local response capability by training volunteers to organize themselves and spontaneous volunteers at the disaster site, to provide immediate assistance to victims, and to collect disaster intelligence to support responders’ efforts when they arrive.

RACES

The Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) and the Radio Amateur Civil Emergency Service (RACES).

An all volunteer Amateur Radio organization operating in conjunction with the Virginia Department of Emergency Management to provide back-up communications for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the various counties therein. New Kent 4 Amateur Radio (NK4AR) is the supporting Amateur Radio club for this effort in New Kent County. For more information, please click here.

Register today for New Kent County's rapid emergency notification system to be, and keep, informed in the event of a weather-related emergency, a missing child alert or any other emergency situation affecting/impacting our area. Registering your contact information takes little time and can be done securely from New Kent's Community Notification Enrollment webpage. With the 2013 tornado season already very active and the 2013 Atlantic hurricane season just now starting, be proactive and enroll in CodeRED® to ensure you're in the know when an emergency strikes.
